What a pleasant surprise

During Monday’s episode of ABC’s The View, Ryan Reynolds shocked the show’s host (and viewers at home) when the camera panned to reveal the Deadpool star sitting in the live studio audience. And if that weren’t enough, the 47-year-old actor brought along a surprise plus one: his mom, Tammy Lee Reynolds

In a video shared on The View’s official Instagram page, co-host Whoopi Goldberg gives a special shout-out to Ryan and his mom, who are both sitting in the audience. “You never know what's going on here at The View,” she says in the clip. “Sometimes you look up and you go, this is really great! And then you look up and go, oh, snap, there’s Ryan Reynolds!”

I couldn’t help but notice the striking resemblance between Ryan and his mom as they sat side-by-side, from their friendly eyes to their cheeky smile. Then Goldberg candidly asks Ryan and Tammy what brings them to The View, to which The Proposal alum explains, “My mom is here visiting her grandkids.” FYI, Ryan shares four children—James, 9, Inez, 7, Betty, 4, and a 15-month-old baby (whose name has not been revealed) with his wife, Blake Lively, 36.

He continues, “And yesterday she said, ‘It’s my dream to go to The View.’” Being the jokester that he is, Ryan playfully adds, “I said, well, first off, I try to do what she says because you don't know what she’s capable of—unspeakable violence, my whole life. I said ‘Let's go to The View.’ I made a call [and] I said, ‘I'm Blake’s husband, I’d like to come to The View. Does that get us a little further?’ Here we are.”

How sweet of you, Ryan.
