The Duke of Cambridge responded to a shouting reporter, who asked, "Is the royal family a racist family, sir?" To which Prince William responded, "We are very much not a racist family."
The uncommon conduct came on the heels of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey, where Markle revealed that she was "silenced" by the royal family, while the Duke of Sussex disclosed that the couple received uncomfortable questions about the skin tone of their (then-unborn) baby, Archie.
While the couple's interview has kept everyone talking, it quite obviously caused a stir with the royal family too. Holly Williams points this out, saying, "And the fact that William did answer those questions, I think, is an indication of the crisis that's gripping the British monarchy. I think that shows how stunned they are by these allegations of racism and they understand how damaging they are."
Although the brothers have not spoken since the interview, The Duke of Cambridge said, "No, I haven't spoken to him yet, but I will do." The pair will be together for the unveiling of their mother's memorial, which will hopefully give the brothers a chance to discuss the issue further. A recent statement from Buckingham Palace assured that "Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
