Prince William & Kate Middleton Posted a Rare Personally Signed Message on Instagram and I Almost Missed it

It's a thoughtful gesture

The royal family recently released a brand-new portrait of King Charles to commemorate Burns Night (the celebration of the life and work of Scotland's bard, Robert Burns). It didn’t take long for Prince William and Kate Middleton to share their own love letter to the poet, which included a special detail at the end of the message.

This week, the Prince and Princess of Wales posted a video on their joint Instagram account, featuring aerial footage of Scotland behind lines from Burns's famous poem, Sketch New Year's Day. To Mrs Dunlop.

The caption read, “Celebrating the beauty of Scotland, the power of nature, and the poetry of Robert Burns. Happy Burns Night.”

I immediately noticed that Prince William and Princess Catherine used their unique sign-off at the end of the message, writing, “W & C.” This simple signature indicates that the note was written by the royal couple themselves, versus someone on their social media team.

The personal message was significant because it was Princess Catherine’s first public message in nearly two weeks (11 days, to be exact). Prior to the Burn tribute, she returned to The Royal Marsden Hospital, which is the same cancer center where she received treatment.

At the time, the Princess of Wales made a major health announcement and revealed that her cancer is in remission. “It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal,” she said. “I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”
