It's the end of an era

Similar to how his dad, King Charles, wanted a slimmed-down monarchy, Prince William is making a few cuts of his own, starting with the staff of the Duchy of Cornwall (the royal fam’s 700-year-old estate.)

According to The Telegraph, the Prince of Wales, 42, has officially cut ties with Queen Camilla’s sister, Annabel Elliot, who was on the royal payroll after working as an interior designer for two decades.

Per the outlet, Elliot has been paid “hundreds of thousands of dollars” for her services over the years. However, she was no longer employed by the royal family from 2023 through 2024. Given the fact that the future monarch has overseen the Duchy of Cornwall since 2019 (after being appointed by his father), Prince William had the power to make such a decision.

“Sources confirmed that Prince William would no longer employ Ms. Elliot, although it was no reflection on her work,” The Telegraph reported. In addition, the unnamed sources told the publication that her “work across the estate is considered complete and the current staff have learned sufficiently from her.”

In case you didn’t know, King Charles (who was the Prince of Wales during the time of his mom Queen Elizabeth II’s reign) hired his sister-in-law as chief designer of his estates after he tied the knot with his wife, Camilla (former Duchess of Cornwall), in 2005.

Since 2005, Elliot has earned annual cash infusions that varied between $25,000 and $106,000 to maintain “rental properties” in addition to the “Duchy offices and its plant nursery.”
