You’ve officially finished binge-watching Prime Video’s Upload (for the seventh time), and you’re left thinking about one thing: Nathan (aka Robbie Amell). Yup, us too. Luckily, the show has been renewed for a third season (phew), so we’ll be seeing a lot more of him. So, who exactly is the actor?

Keep reading for everything we know about Robbie Amell.

1. Who Is Robbie Amell?

He’s a Canadian-American actor and producer known for playing the lead role of Nathan in the Amazon Prime science fiction comedy series Upload.

However, the show is not Amell’s first rodeo, as he previously starred as Stephen Jameson on The CW's series The Tomorrow People, Ronnie Raymond (Firestorm) in The Flash and Agent Miller in the X-Files. You may also recognize him from comedy film, The Duff. Pretty impressive resume.

2. How Did He Get Involved in Upload?

Clearly, Amell is no stranger to the big and small screen. However, this series combined all of his favorite genres, which is what led him to jump on board.

“I love comedy and I love sci-fi, that’s kind of where my taste lives,” Amell told the NY Post. “I knew that I wanted [to do] a half-hour comedy for a streaming network and a good producer. As [‘Upload’ creator and executive producer Greg Daniels] says, I got 2 out of 3. I obviously got 3. I couldn’t be happier.”

Oh yeah, and the fact that Daniels (creator of hit shows like The Office and Parks and Rec) was running the project didn’t hurt either.

“The first thing that attracted me to the show was Greg Daniels. He’s a genius—I love Parks and Recreation, I love The Office, ” he continued. “I thought it was such an interesting idea. We’re living in this post Black Mirror world, everybody’s ready for a show like this. And I just thought that Nathan—we have a similar voice and a similar sense of humor, which made things easy right off the bat.”

3. Is He Married?

Sorry, single ladies, he’s taken. The actor is married to fellow actress Italia Ricci (Designated Survivor). The couple began dating back in 2008 after they met on the set of Cheaper By the Dozen 2. The duo dated for years before finally tying the knot in 2016 at a beautiful ceremony in Los Angeles.

The Hollywood couple also share a child together—a baby boy who they welcomed in September 2019. They announced the news in matching Instagram posts featuring their son, who they named after his father.

"Today we welcome Robert Amell V into the world but also find out that being triple extra pregnant increases your odds of birthing Gollum," Ricci cheekily captioned her post.

"And now everything is different," Amell wrote. "Robert Amell V."

4. Anything Else We Should Know?

It’s also worth mentioning that he isn’t the only famous member of his family. Perhaps the name Amell sounds familiar? Well, it’s possible you’re associating Robbie with his also-famous cousin, Stephen Amell, who stars in the hit series, Arrow. Although almost a decade apart, Robbie and Stephen have a pretty good relationship both personally and professionally.

“We were really close when we were young, and he’s seven years older, so there was a little gap when he was 15 and I was 8 and we didn’t have a whole lot in common,” Amell told the NY Post.

“We’d see each other occasionally at a family dinner, but we both fell into [acting] with…really lucky coincidental happenings, and we both just ran with it. It’s been really fun, we had a movie [‘Code 8’] come out that we produced and starred in together go number one on Netflix, which is unbelievable.”

The cousins even got to shoot Arrow and The Flash together—something Robbie called “pretty wild.”
