If you aren’t familiar with Mikey Madison, then you ought to put the 25-year-old actress on your radar. Not only does she have an impressive resume, but she’s also making headlines as the lead in Sean Baker’s Anora.
So, who is Mikey Madison? Here’s everything you need to know.
Mikey Madison is an up-and-coming actress who was born and raised in Los Angeles. If you don't already recognize her from Better Things, then you may know her from Anora (more on this later).
Her career began with small guest roles in short films like Bound for Greatness and Liza Liza: Skies Are Grey. In 2017, Madison was booked on the Bravo show Imposters, where she played young Maddie.
She proceeded to appear in popular films (like Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood and 2022's Scream), but it wasn't until she landed the role of Max in FX's Better Things that her career really took off. Most recently, Madison appeared as Judith in Lady in the Lake and Ani in Anora.
Anora is a brand-new comedy film that's been gaining positive acclaim ever since it hit theaters on October 18. Madison portrays a young sex worker named Ani, whose life is turned upside-down when she meets a Russian oligarch named Ivan (Mark Eydelshteyn).
Their whirlwind romance results in the duo eloping in Vegas, but this news doesn’t sit well with Ivan’s family. It doesn’t take long for his parents to travel to New York, where they try to have the marriage annulled.
Director Sean Baker specifically wrote the role for Madison after he saw her in Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood. “I felt like the luckiest actress in the world that he wanted to work with me,” she told ELLE Canada.
