The season 4 premiere of the hit Netflix show Outer Banks is just a few days away and we couldn't be more excited for all the treasure hunts, love triangles and teenage shenanigans to come (eek!). At a recent event with Brooks Running to celebrate the launch of their brand-new running shoe, the Glycerin Max, I had a chance to sit down with John B himself: 32-year-old actor Chase Stokes. In anticipation of the return to his breakout role, here's everything he had to say.

Season 3 of Outer Banks ends with an 18-month time jump and a potential new treasure hunt on the horizon. Though little is revealed about what happens during that passage of time, the Pogues appear to finally have gotten a break, reveling in a slower pace and higher tax bracket thanks to their miraculous discovery of El Dorado, the city of gold.

Will season 4 bring about another country-hopping adventure? Or have these kids finally had enough? "[Season 4] is a return to the characters in a way that we have ventured a little bit away from in the last two seasons," Stokes shares. "[They got to do] the big giant treasure hunting, which is great and it's fun but I think what people really love about the show is the jib-jabby nature of these characters and them getting into these personal situations. So I think they'll really enjoy getting to spend more time with their favorite characters on the show."

Viewers first fell in love with John B as the want-for-nothing teen who was desperate to find his missing father. Throughout the past three seasons, we've seen him through it all. "He's been very impulsive," Stokes shares of his character. "And he's definitely made some choices that have put not just loved ones and friends in jeopardy, but his whole life in jeopardy as well. And so I think this year and in this season for John B there's a lot more time to reflect and be proactive as opposed to reactive."

From hiking through the rainforest to hightailing it out of a few too many dicey situations, John B is always on the run. When asked how he prepares for such a physical role, Stokes says he loves to switch it up ("I've always been a big fan of trying new things in fitness") but has recently found his way back to running after recovering from a painful knee injury. "Running has always been something that [allows me to] kind of disassociate," he admits, "so I can't, you know, look at my phone or scroll through Instagram in between sets. I've been really excited to get back into running lately and that's kind of how this partnership [with Brooks] came about."

Part 1 of season 4 of Outer Banks will return to Netflix on October 10, 2024 with part 2 airing one month later on November 7.
