‘Virgin River’ Stars Annette O’Toole & Tim Matheson Played a Married Couple on a Show in the ’70s

It’s no secret that Tim Matheson and Annette O’Toole play a husband-and-wife duo, Doc Mullins and Hope McCrea, on Netflix’s Virgin River. But did you know that the actors have known each other for over 40 years?

O’Toole recently sat down for an exclusive interview with PureWow and spilled the beans about Virgin River season 4. While discussing her on-screen husband, the actress revealed that she knew Matheson long before they starred on the Netflix show. In fact, they played a married couple on a ’70s series called What Really Happened to the Class of ’65?

“I met him when he did a movie [Almost Summer] with my then boyfriend Bruno Kirby, and that’s when we first met,” she told PureWow. “And then I did a television show called What Really Happened to the Class of ’65?, which was based on this book. So, we played a young married couple.”

Their on-screen run-ins didn’t stop there. O’Toole added, “Right after I had my first daughter, we did a show together called The Best Legs in Eighth Grade, which was sort of like an hour-long kind of play for television.”

She continued, “We have a lovely relationship. It’s really great to work with him and to be directed by him as well.” (FYI, Matheson has directed four episodes of Virgin River.)

Fingers crossed for more Doc and Hope in Virgin River season 4.
