‘And Just Like That’ Showrunner Reveals Samantha Will Be Back—in a Very Familiar Way

And just like that…Samantha will be back for season two (well, kinda).

While sitting down with Variety, showrunner Michael Patrick King spilled some details about the Sex and the City reboot series. He teased that Samantha Jones (played by Kim Cattrall) will be back for the second season, but it won't be an in-person appearance. Instead, it will be a text message cameo.

Viewers may recall Samantha appeared in season one via a text message with Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw. The 65-year-old actress has been open about not returning to the show. However, fans can expect to see more texts from Samantha in the second season.

While King remained pretty tight-lipped about season two, he did confirm Samantha’s return. When asked about the character’s involvement, he responded, “Yes!” He added, “My goal is to bring all the characters into the mix together so that they're not so much on separate runways.”

Back in March, HBO announced that And Just Like That… is set to return for a second season. Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are confirmed to star in the new installment. The revival series follows all three of their characters—Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte—as they try to navigate life, friendships and love in their 50s.

At the time, King released a statement that read: “I am delighted and excited to tell more stories about these vibrant, bold characters—played by these powerful, amazing actors. The fact is, we're all thrilled. And Just like That… our sex life is back.”

We’re just happy to see Samantha return for season two, text or not.
