Amid the pomp and pageantry of Japan's recent state visit to the U.K., King Charles and Emperor Naruhito of Japan appeared to be thick as thieves as they carried out the first day of royal engagements. I imagine they chatted about the good old days—when a younger Naruhito attended Oxford University and went fly-fishing with Charles. However, it's also likely that the old pals bonded over something that has everything to do with Prince Harry. (Allow me to explain.)
In 2020, King Charles's son, Prince Harry, and his wife Meghan Markle stepped down as senior members of the royal family and officially resigned from their royal roles in 2021. The pair moved to Montecito, California, with their family to lead a new life. And similarly, Emperor Naruhito's niece, Princess Mako Komuro, bid farewell to the royal world after marrying outside the imperial family in October 2021. She and her husband, Kei Komuro, now reside in New York.
