The king and two future kings. In a new portrait released by Buckingham Palace, we see the newly-coronated King Charles III, 74, posing for a three generations pic with his son, Prince William, 40, and his grandson, Prince George, 9.
Royal photographer Hugo Burnand took the portrait, and it was shared to the family's official Instagram with a caption that read, “The King with The Prince of Wales and Prince George of Wales in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace on Coronation Day.”
In the portrait, King Charles is seated in the center wearing his Robe of Estate and donning the Imperial State Crown. Meanwhile, he holds the Sovereign's Orb and the Sovereign's Sceptre with Cross in his hands. To his left, Prince William is outfitted in the ceremonial dress uniform of the Welsh Guards, as well as his military regalia. Meanwhile, to the right, Prince George wears a red coat.
This was one of two portraits released late Friday afternoon. The other showed King Charles and Queen Camilla posing with their eight Pages of Honour and two Ladies in Attendance on coronation day.
When King Charles was crowned in Westminster Abbey on May 6, both his son and his grandson had special roles in the ceremony.
As a Page of Honour, Prince George walked with his grandpa on his way into the abbey, holding the trail of his Robe of State. Meanwhile, Prince William presented the Stole Royal and the Robe Royal to his dad, and he also recited the Homage of Royal Blood, acting as a representative for the entire royal family.
As one royal commenter put it, the future of the United Kingdom is in good hands.
