Prince William Just Posed for Pics with David Beckham—and I Spotted Something Odd About Will’s Body Language

I guess even royals get nervous from time to time

I wouldn't go so far as to say, "Royals, they're just like us," cause, ya know, they're royals. But judging by Prince William's body language at an event today, I can pretty safely say, "Royals, they get awkward AF sometimes, just like me."

Today, Prince William attended the launch of London Air Ambulance's two newest helicopters—and he had a little bit of help from soccer/football star David Beckham (or as I refer to him, Victoria Beckham's hot husband). The pair posed for pictures, explored the inside of the helicopters (to which Will is no stranger) and even took selfies with the medical teams. And while I'm all for promoting positive milestones in the healthcare field, I really couldn't get over the fact that Prince William looked, I dunno, super awkward next to Beckham.

I've observed the prince at countless events and I've seen him looking comfortable and in his element before—and this was not that. As you can see from his body language, he is delivering a tight, forced smile and has his hands covering his body, indicating that he wants to be closed off or protected. Meanwhile, Beckham seems right at home next to him, flashing a natural smile and standing with open body language.

Even their outfits betrayed that Will was feeling a bit stiff today. His high buttoned collar (likely meant to make him look "casual" since he didn't have a tie) seemed stuffy next to Beckham's widely open collar, where his neck tattoos were on full display.

Perhaps the future monarch was feeling a little starstruck next to Beckham (though he's certainly been around his fair share of famous people) or maybe he was just having a rough morning. But even the distance between the pair indicated a stiffness and a formality that is usually missing from the normally confident and comfortable prince.

As I mentioned, Prince William did take the time to pose for a selfie with the London medical team (where I can't say he looked all that much more comfortable).

Some royal fans will smartly note that taking a selfie is a break in protocol, though the family seems to be much more lax with that rule as of late.

After the outing, the Kensington Palace Instagram account posted a series of images from the event on social media. They captioned the post, "Celebrating the launch of @londonsairambulance’s new helicopters with @davidbeckham! Thanks to an incredible fundraising effort to raise £16 million to purchase two new H135 helicopters, LAA medical teams can continue reaching patients when every second counts."

Here's hoping today was just an off day for the prince and that he's back to his usual buoyant, excited self very soon.
