In fact, Monte is actually a rescue dog who was “discovered” by Disney producers earlier this summer. It all started when filmmakers visited HALO Animal Rescue shelter in Phoenix, Arizona, which is about a five-hour drive from where the film was shot in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
After meeting the pup, the producers adopted him and transformed him into the movie star he is today. After the news broke, HALO Animal Rescue shelter thanked Disney on Twitter and revealed that Monte is just one of many dogs to find a loving home.
“It’s our pleasure to help out our neighbors in NM,” the shelter wrote, “We still have a working relationship with them in fact to help dogs like Monte get adopted. And now he’s a star!”
Unlike the original 1955 movie, the new version will feature real-life dogs stepping in for the usually animated stars. The canines will be voiced by celebrity counterparts, including Tessa Thompson (Westworld) as Lady, Justin Theroux (Parks and Recreation) as Tramp, Sam Elliott (A Star Is Born) as Trusty, Ashley Jensen (Ugly Betty) as Jackie, Janelle Monáe (Hidden Figures) as Peg and Benedict Wong (Avengers: Endgame) as Bull.
Lady and the Tramp will premiere on November 12 on the studio’s brand-new streaming service, Disney+. Let the countdown to Monte begin.
