We do know that Markle may have a home birth, though, and that she’s very close to going into labor (so submit your last-minute baby name predictions stat). Buckingham Palace released a statement in mid-April: “Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”
Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, reportedly arrived in London on April 22 to be there for her daughter as she gives birth, and is expected to stay with the Sussexes in their new home of Frogmore for the first few months after the newborn arrives. The child will be seventh in line to the throne and could possibly run for president (NBD).
In March, the Duchess of Sussex, 37, attended a reception at Buckingham Palace in honor of the 50th anniversary of Prince Charles’s investiture (aka bestowment) as the Prince of Wales. While there, Markle spotted a guest she met at a previous event and joked about her growing baby bump. “A bit different than when I saw you last,” she said, according to Harper’s Bazaar.
When Alun Cairns, the secretary of state for Wales, asked if everything is “in good order,” the duchess thanked him before gushing over her upcoming due date, adding, “No, it’s actually very sweet. It’s a nurturing thing to ask. We’re nearly there!”
