King Charles Pens Personal Letter to Ukraine and Includes His Special Signature: ‘Charles R’

One year has passed since the start of the war on Ukraine. As the Ukrainian people continue to endure cruel conditions in this devastating crisis, King Charles wrote a touching message to the civilians affected by the tragedy—and he added his own personal touch to the note by signing with his special signature.

Earlier today, the king shared the personal letter on the royal family’s Instagram account. In the message, the monarch began by acknowledging the horrible atrocities, writing, “It has now been a year that the people of Ukraine have suffered unimaginably from an unprovoked full-scale attack on their nation. They have shown truly remarkable courage and resilience in the face of such human tragedy.”

In the caption of the post, the letter continued, “The world has watched in horror at all the unnecessary suffering inflicted upon Ukrainians, many of whom I have had the great pleasure of meeting here in the U.K. and, indeed, across the world, from Romania to Canada.”

His Majesty went on to share how he recently met with the President of Ukraine. The monarch wrote: “Earlier this month I met President Zelenskyy at Buckingham Palace to express my personal support for the people of Ukraine. It is heartening that the United Kingdom, along with its allies, is doing everything possible to help at this most difficult time.”

The message was personally penned by the king himself, as he signed it with his special signature: “Charles R.” Royal aficionados may recall that the king’s late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, would also sign letters with her unique signature, often writing “Elizabeth R” at the end of a document. In this case, the letter “R” stands for “Rex,” which is the Latin translation of the word “king.”

What a kind message coming straight from the King of England.
