Buckingham Palace Shares Striking Birthday Portrait of King Charles Standing Alone

It's hard to believe it's only been a year since King Charles celebrated his 75th birthday (with a surprise Princess Diana photo). After all, it's been quite the eventful year for the royals.

In February, Buckingham Palace released a shocking statement revealing the king has cancer. In March, Kate Middleton spoke out about her own diagnosis in an emotional video. Plus, we saw Princess Catherine and Princess Charlotte together at Wimbledon, Queen Camilla smiling for selfies on tour and Prince William serving new facial hair.

But today, the monarch officially turns 76, and the royal fam is celebrating as they always do—with some social media love.

Today on Instagram, Buckingham Palace posted a striking photo of King Charles standing alone wearing a blue suit with a matching tie and pocket square. The palace captioned the post, "Wishing His Majesty The King a very Happy Birthday today." They also threw in a birthday cake emoji for good measure.

In addition, King Charles's son, Prince William, posted birthday wishes on social media.

The Kensington Palace Twitter account (that William and Kate Middleton share) posted a recent photo from the king's tour of Australia and Samoa. They captioned their post, "Wishing a very Happy Birthday to His Majesty The King!"

Last year, the palace posted a birthday video for King Charles featuring a photo timeline of the past 75 years—and they even included a surprise appearance by Princess Diana.
