Kate Middleton Recently Sat Down for an Interview and…Didn’t Have Any Shoes on?

As royal admirers, we’ve become quite used to hearing about British royal family members breaking standard protocol. (FYI, the royals generally follow a set of guidelines whenever they are out and about—even if there isn’t a specific “etiquette book”.)

Prince William, 41, taking a selfie with fans? Sure. Kate Middleton, 41, sneaking into a music festival with friends? Yup, heard that one too. But, the Princess of Wales sitting down for an interview…with no shoes on?! Yeah, that’s not something you see every day. 

While sitting down with The Times, U.K. radio personality Roman Kemp recently shared how his sit-down interview with the royal princess took him by surprise. 

He told the outlet that the mom of three contacted him shortly after the premiere of his BBC documentary titled Roman Kemp: Our Silent Emergency, which does a deep dive into the mental health crisis affecting young men living in England.  

After talking over video chat, Middleton apparently insisted that she come over for a visit so they could continue the interview there. “We had a Zoom call, just her and me,” Kemp revealed. “And she was like, ‘Oh, you know, I can come over to your place and do it there.’ And I just said, ‘No, let’s go to my parents’. It’s a bigger house. I don’t want to bring royalty to a flat in Vauxhall.”

Kemp shared how Catherine took off her shoes at the door before entering his parents’ home and then they went on to have their chat. While the action certainly took the radio host by surprise, he revealed that he really appreciated the “respectful” gesture.
