Something old and something new?

If you're a fan of the royals or even just a casual scroller of the internet, it's likely you've come across the viral video released by Kensington Palace of Kate Middleton announcing the end of her chemotherapy treatment. And while that video was full of royal firsts, like candid moments of the Windsor-Middleton family sharing moments with Carole and Michael Middleton and the royal couple cozying up for some rare PDA, something that caught my eye was Kate's new ring, which made an appearance in the heartfelt update.

The massive sapphire and diamond engagement ring that Princess Catherine usually wears was replaced by a new piece and a jewelry expert with over 20 years of experience, Phil Grosso from Amore Fine Jewelery, weighed in on the meaning behind the swap.

Grosso believes that Middleton's new ring is an infinity band, which holds quite a bit of significance given the circumstances and content of the video the Princess of Wales and her family decided to release almost two weeks ago.

"Eternity rings have long been a symbol of unending love, commitment, and connection. Given Kate’s affinity for personal pieces, this ring may represent resilience and strength, especially after her health journey," Grosso says.

He adds, "The sapphires likely link back to her famous engagement ring, creating a beautiful connection between generations of royal women, while the eternity band symbolizes moving forward with grace—eternal love and hope for the future."

"Whether it’s a personal gift or simply a piece that holds special meaning, it’s clear that this ring represents much more than just its gemstones. It’s a testament to love, endurance, and a bright future ahead," Grosso finishes explaining.

Though she's been sporting her new piece as of late, Middleton's engagement ring is very well known.

According to Vanity Fair, the ring is made up of a 12 carat Ceylon sapphire encircled by 14 diamonds. It originally belonged to Princess Diana and was made specifically for her by King Charles. It has belonged to Kate Middleton since Prince William proposed to her with it in December of 2010.

As for me, I'm hoping that this new band makes regular appearances in the Princess's jewelry rotation, especially given its unique and special meaning.
