Martha Stewart is known for a lot of things—home decor, gardening, thirst traps—but one of her biggest claims to fame? Cooking. After all, she did host a cooking show that ran for seven seasons. But her latest food throwback has the internet seriously divided.

On March 25, Stewart shared a vintage clip from her show featuring a recipe that was near and dear to her heart: her father’s favorite late-night sandwich. And let’s just say, it’s not what you’d expect. The ingredients? Just white bread, raw onions and sweet butter. Yep, that’s it.

“Don’t knock it ‘til you try it,” the caption read. “Between games of late-night Scrabble, Martha and her father would have these simple, yet delicious, onion sandwiches.” The post even encouraged followers to check out more sandwich recipes via the link in their bio.

Naturally, Instagram had thoughts.

“Martha getting us ready for another recession,” one person joked. Another added, “Martha, I’m worried about you.” And then there was this gem: “Girl, you got billions now, dream bigger.”

But not everyone was horrified. Some users were actually intrigued to give it a try—especially with a few tweaks.

“If it was caramelized… gimme a whole plate,” one person wrote. Another shared, “My granny ate these! Sometimes if she was feeling sassy, she’d add a fried egg.”

And believe it or not, onion sandwiches actually have history. One person pointed out a famous French chef and author, writing, “Jacques Pépin likes these too! I need to try it.” Another added, “They used to eat this in the coal mines. I grew up eating onion sandwiches—so yummy.”

So, would you give Martha’s midnight snack a try?
