Kate Middleton is subtly paying tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth. (And we almost missed it.)

This week, the Princess of Wales, 41, hosted an event at Windsor Castle with experts who specialize in early childhood development (which is right up her alley). Princess Catherine wore a chic tailored blazer by one of her favorite designers, Alexander McQueen, but it was her accessories that caught our eye—in particular, her pearl earrings.

Middleton was wearing the Faux-Pearl Curb-Chain Earrings by Simone Rocha. While they typically retail for £225 ($278), they are currently sold out online. The brand has a few similar options (like these silver-toned faux pearl earrings for $410 and these crystal-embellished pearl posts for $295), but there are also some cheaper versions (like these drop earrings by Kenneth Jay Lane for $50 and these organic pearl hoops by Mejuri for $78)

According to Maxwell Stone (jewelry expert for Steven Stone), the royal’s pearl earrings paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth. He said, “Since the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the royal ladies have worn pearls as a sweet tribute to the late monarch, who fell in love with pearl jewelry as a child and regularly wore it throughout her life—including a pearl necklace that she received from her father King George VI for her coronation in 1937.”

This isn’t the first time that Princess Catherine has worn the Simone Rocha earrings. In fact, she originally debuted them back in October 2020 while filming a video for the Wildlife Photographer of the Year awards. Then, she repurposed the accessory in 2021 when she attended Wimbledon.

Subtle tributes FTW.
