Here’s How You (or a Friend) Can Apply to Be on ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’

If you (or someone you know) is in need of a pick-me-up in the form of an Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, you’re in luck.

HGTV is currently seeking families to star in the brand-new, ten-episode revival, which will premiere in 2022. The network is conducting an all-out search in an attempt to find deserving families with inspirational, untold stories.

To apply for the show, families will need to submit photos of themselves, as well as their current residence. They’ll also need to upload a two-minute video about their life story, so cue the uncontrollable sobbing.

Unlike previous seasons, HGTV is encouraging everyone—not just homeowners—to apply for the series, which means renters and prospective buyers can now get in on the fun, too. (More information, including how to apply, can be found on the show’s official website.)

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition originally premiered in 2003 on ABC as a spin-off of Extreme Makeover. The show was hosted by Ty Pennington, who you may recognize from Trading Spaces.

Each episode follows a different family who gives back to the community despite their own financial difficulties. They embark on a once-in-a-lifetime vacation while the Extreme Makeover team renovates their home and eventually return for the big reveal. (Disclaimer: Tissues are an absolute necessity.)

In the wise words of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, “Move. That. Bus!”
