ELLEI HOME

1. Parisian-Dinner Party Tables

Here, a rustic, French-inspired tablescape that’ll never go out of style. Picture a dimly lit bistro on La Rue Saint-Martin with half-melted candles, handblown glassware and dishes that look like they’ve been around for centuries. The look is simple, it’s elegant and everything about it exudes a lived-in, laissez-faire feel. Think: washed linen table runners, heirloom-quality dinnerware and lots of muted, monochromatic hues.

ELLEI HOME

Take it from the experts at Ellei Home, who brought the look above together. “The perfect festive table setting is one that balances the tension between effort and atmosphere…A simple tablecloth and some napkins, or a small bunch of festive foliage with a few candles can be more than enough to signal to ourselves and our guests that this is an occasion to be savored and not just a dinner to be rushed through,” they write in a blog post. “One bunch of foliage from the local florist is enough to decorate an entire table and only takes a few minutes to spread across the table or arrange in a vase. For the final touches that create a warming atmosphere add a few simple pillar candles.”

2. Retro 70s-Inspired Tables

ICYMI, the 70s are back, baby. From mustard yellows and avocado greens to velvet textures and antique brass accents—everything in design seems to be a call to the decade of funk and freedom. So, when it comes to pulling this look off at the table, you want to make sure you're hitting three categories: color, pattern and mixed metals.

HOUSES & PARTIES

Think: floral embroidered plates, metal candle/napkin holders and linens (or florals) in retro hues (avocado green, turquoise, brown, tangerine and mustard yellow). And the best part about this look? You can go all out with an array of uplifting colors and funky patterns (like in the picture shown above), or take a more subtle approach by incorporating just one element of the trend (like patterned plates or an ochre table runner). Just be sure everything has a groovy, nostalgic vibe.

3. Organic Modern Tables

Finally, a nature-filled tablescape that combines the elegance of the first look with the color of the second. Pulling from this year’s organic modern trend, the look is all about creating a foundation of natural color and texture and accentuating it with whatever’s on the table. “It all centers on the food and the table; good gravy, a golden bird and a choice of pies (a choice of pies!),” explain experts at Rough Linen in a blog post. “You can [choose] classic neutrals as the stage for your gathering…napkins can tone or contrast and a runner can focus the center of the table (or cross it for a different edge).  Once you have the foundation, you can build on it.”

Rough Linen

To that end, the key to nailing this look is in balancing your linens, dishes and decor to create one unified vignette. Take the above, for example. Mossy green linens acts as the anchor color, while grapes, pears, apples and limes tie everything together. The brown plates offer a subtle hint of contrast and allow the natural elements on the table to speak for themselves.
