When you think holiday treats, what comes to mind first? Cookies? A glazed ham, perhaps? What about a 1.5-liter bottle of wine-spiked egg nog?
Apparently, that’s exactly what Costco had in mind this year. Instagram account @costcobuys reports that the Kirkland Egg Nog Wine Cocktail is available on Costco shelves for $8.99. According to the Costco blogger, the nog is “made with real dairy cream, contains 13.9 percent alcohol by volume and is best served over ice.” (Out of a moose-shaped cup à la Christmas Vacation, if you’re extra.)
It’s not that we have anything against large bottles of pre-mixed cocktails. It’s just that, well, egg nog and wine aren’t the pairing we’re craving. The rich, dairy-based drink is more often served with brandy, rum or whisky…and creamy wine isn’t really our thing. But you do you, Costco.
And FYI, it appears the bulk store has plenty of other, more appealing holiday finds. @costcobuys has documented gingerbread house kits, white chocolate-peppermint pretzel crisps, s’mores snack mix and panettone, all of which would make worthy additions to our Christmas spread. We’ll just stick to making our egg nog at home, thank you very much.
Of course, this begs the question: Who asked for wine-nog? Santa?
