These Are the Best Boots to Pair with a Miniskirt (and Not Look Like a Hooch)

Ah, the miniskirt. How is it that an item of clothing that helped define the women's liberation movement can also feel so limiting and childish? Styling a mini to feel fresh, modern and age-appropriate is a true challenge, but when it comes to footwear, we have one particular favorite shoe that always looks totally on point: a flat ankle boot.

One of the best fashion tips we've ever heard is that the shorter the hemline is, the lower your heel should be. So it stands to reason that the shortest hem of all would warrant no heel at all. And that's exactly right. A tough, flat bootie is the perfect way to balance out a sexy mini-length dress or skirt.

Best of all, this handy little trick works with all combinations of styles, whether you prefer preppy pleats or raw-hem denim and black Dr. Martens or sleek, classic booties. Now get out there and show some leg.

Get the look: ASOS ($32); Bershka ($73); Dr. Martens ($140); Linea Paolo ($150); & Other Stories ($155); Clarks ($160); Vagabond ($160); Marc Fisher LTD. ($179); Everlane ($198); COS ($225); Frye ($298); Rag & Bone ($475); Aquatalia ($495)
