BEST INEXPENSIVE ONLINE CLOTHING STORES

1. asos

  • Average pricing: $150 and under, with a small selection of more expensive pieces
  • Shipping/return pricing: Flat $5 shipping fee, free shipping on orders over $50, free returns
  • Size range: 00 to 26, Petite, Tall, Maternity, Fuller Bust

We like to think of this U.K. based retailer as a one-stop-shop for literally any and all of our sartorial needs. Trendy separates, including of-the-moment jeans and dresses? Check. Inexpensive accessories to complete any look? You betcha. Bridesmaid dresses? Bathing suits? Workwear? Athletic apparel? Yes, yes, yes and yes. Even better, many ASOS-specific designs are available in petite, tall, plus and maternity, in addition to your typical XS through XL. In addition to its multiple in-house lines—Collusion, ASOS Made In Africa, ASOS 4505, etc.— the e-comm giant also carries brands like & Other Stories, Levi’s, Whistles and Topshop, just to name a few. Although it ships from across the pond, deliveries are usually pretty speedy, especially if you sign up for ASOS’s Premier Delivery membership, which gives you free two-day shipping (it also applies to returns) and costs just $19 annually.

2. zappos

  • Average pricing: $200 and under, with a selection of pieces $300 and up
  • Shipping/return pricing: Free shipping and returns on all orders
  • Size range: 00 to 24, Petite, Maternity

What began 20 years ago as a digital shoe store has since evolved into a super-size retailer with everything from running sneakers to back-to-school clothes plus men’s suits and a heavy dose of fantastic women’s ready-to-wear thrown in there, too. Zappos’s shoe selection is still mighty impressive, with pairs from well-known brands (like Nike and Sam Edelman) and lesser-known names (including OluKai and Kaanas). As for the clothes, most of the pieces come in under $200, but there is also The Style Room, a section of the site where shoppers can find their fave designer brands, including Loeffler Randall, 1.State, Prabal Gurung and Tory Burch. Across both sections you’ll find classic denim, fabulous and practical outerwear, adorable summer dresses and everything in between.

3. eloquii

  • Average pricing: $150 and under
  • Shipping/return pricing: Flat $7.50 fee, free shipping over $125, free returns
  • Size range: 12 to 28

While the selection of plus-size clothing that’s fashion-forward is slowly but surely improving, there still aren’t a ton of great options out there. Eloquii is one majorly cool exception. Its garments are a perfect balance between elegant and trendy and the retailer frequently collaborates with influencers like Gabi Fresh and I Am BeautiCurve, for curve-friendly collections designed by the very women who wear them. The most expensive pieces go for $150, but most styles are under 100 bucks, meaning you can stock up on both office- and date-appropriate looks without breaking the bank.

4. garmentory

  • Average pricing: $250 and under, with some items up through $500
  • Shipping/return pricing: Flat $9.95 fee, free shipping on orders over $100
  • Size range: XS to XXL

Garmentory is all about providing a platform for small boutiques and independent designers from across the globe. The site is packed with jewelry, clothes, shoes and accessories (as well as menswear, kid’s and some home decor items), many of which are handmade in small batches. Each product page shares the brand, designer or boutique name, as well as info on where they are located so you can brag about your Manhattan-original T-shirt from Blue & Cream or Seattle-made earrings hailing from Aurelie. The fun is all in finding an item that no one in your crew already owns. There are also some pre-loved styles on the site from names we all know and love, like Ulla Johnson and Ganni, as well as a new Make an Offer program which allows the option to haggle on certain items.

5. verishop

  • Average pricing: Under $300, up to $700
  • Shipping/return pricing: Free shipping and returns on all orders
  • Size range: XS to XL

Think of Verishop as a combination of Nordstrom and Amazon, with an impressive collection of womenswear, menswear, home goods and beauty all with free one-day shipping and a clean, beautiful website to explore. There are dresses, jewelry, shoes, jeans and swimwear from names like Paige, Misa Los Angeles, Blank NYC, Vince, Saloni and Staud.

6. lisa Says Gah

  • Average pricing: Under $250
  • Shipping/return pricing: Free shipping on orders over $80
  • Size range: XS to XL

This San Francisco-based online shop is a bit smaller than most of the others on this list and comes with a tighter selection of styles. But trust us when we say you’re going to want to add basically everything From Lisa Says Gah to your cart. There are plenty of everyday styles—floral frocks from Just Female, neutral-hued sandals by Vagabond, KJP’s graphic tees and cozy knits à la Paloma Wool—alongside pieces the brand likes to describe as “truly special.” That includes newspaper print jeans, lime green blouses, vintage-inspired plaid suiting and cheeky daisy earrings. FYI, there is typically only a small batch of each product, so if something catches your eye, we suggest you act fast.

7. amazon Fashion

  • Average pricing: $100 and under, with a selection of more expensive pieces
  • Shipping/return pricing: Free shipping and returns for Amazon Prime members
  • Size range: 00 to 36, Petite, Tall, Maternity

A few years ago, we never would have turned to Amazon for clothing. But oh, how times have changed. Most recently the site began working with the CFDA and Vogue to bring up and coming independent designers—as well as more established names like Tanya Taylor and Anna Sui—to the masses with its Common Threads program. But there’s also The Drop, which, in addition to a selection of chic basics, features limited-edition mini collaborations with fashion influencers available to shop for just 24 hours; Making the Cut, Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn’s new design competition show which actually produced winning looks for viewers to buy through Amazon; as well as the #FoundItOnAmazon page where you can buy pieces worn by your favorite Instagram influencers. So yeah, it turns out fashion isn’t an Amazon weak spot after all.

8. w Concept

  • Average pricing: $150 to $200
  • Shipping/return pricing: Free shipping on orders over $100
  • Size range: XXS to XXL

This Korean-based retailer is your ultimate designation for discovering emerging Asian designers. Think Reike Nen, Yan13 and Yuul Yie, to list a few better-known names. Like many other stores on this list, W Concept sells menswear and lifestyle goods, in addition to women’s clothes, shoes, bags and accessories. Most dresses hover around $150, while tops tend to come in under $100. There’s also swimwear, intimates, shoes, bags, accessories and an entire section of the site devoted to faux fur. The retailer also has frequent Budget-Friendly Sales which tend to feature one designer at a time but can also include new seasonal pieces.

9. Lulus

  • Average pricing: $150 and under
  • Shipping/return pricing: Free shipping over $50, free returns
  • Size range: XS to XL

Lulus specializes in minimalist and femme styles with a subtly sexy twist. And while there are lots of WFH co-ords, flirty frocks and beautiful blouses (along with shoes, bags and jewelry), perhaps our favorite part of the site is the numerous shopper reviews, many of which include photos, making it much easier to predict what garments will look like IRL and on many different body types. Most styles come in under $150 and are Lulus-designed but shoppers can also find items from Line & Dot, Agolde, O.P.T., Splendid and Steve Madden.

10. Shopbop

  • Average pricing: $120 to $300
  • Shipping/return pricing: Free two-day shipping for Amazon Prime members, free returns
  • Size range: 00 to 18

We were first drawn in by the bright, cheery colors and easy interface of Shopbop’s website, but, of course, it was the immense collection of super trendy apparel, accessories and shoes that really stole our hearts. Shopbop (which is owned by Amazon and allows Prime members to utilize their free two-day shipping privileges) runs the gamut of brands, selling our favorite go-to affordable lines (Madewell, Faithfull the Brand, Free People), high-end designers we occasionally like to splurge on (Alice + Olivia, Ulla Johnson, Self-Portrait) and new names we’ll soon be seeing all over Instagram (keep an eye out for Banjanan and Alfeya Valrina). The e-comm site even carries a few very high-end pieces from brands like Dion Lee, Victoria Beckham and Zimmermann. There are pieces to fit any budget and style, but we’re particular fans of the curated Fashion Finds Under $200 section.

11. Revolve

  • Average pricing: $120 to $300
  • Shipping/return pricing: Free shipping and returns
  • Size range: XXS to XXL

Revolve may sell many of the same brands as other retailers on this list—Mara Hoffman, For Love and Lemons, Zimmermann—but it does so with a look that’s entirely its own. Its unique vibe has made it a fan-favorite for many, many fashion influencers and has even led to some partnerships with big names like Camila Coelho and Nicole Richie’s line House of Harlow 1969. Revolve favors sexy styling, with lots of side-slit midi dresses, minis galore and midriff-baring two-piece sets. But there are also many more modest pieces for those who aren’t into the idea of showing so much skin. The online boutique also has a surprisingly robust beauty selection, as well as lots of affordable jewelry and hair accessories.

12. Folklore

  • Average pricing: $200 to $350
  • Shipping/return pricing: Free shipping and returns on orders over $200
  • Size range: XS to XL

Based in NYC, Folklore aims to highlight African designers. As such, it carries a small stock of pieces by a variety of womenswear, menswear and lifestyle brands, like Andrea Iyamah, Bloke and Studio Badge, which run from about $60 up through $800-plus, although most fall within a range of $200 to $350. And while we love the brightly colored and intricately detailed clothing, it’s the accessories—jewelry, bags, shoes—that really made our heart sing. (One more note, sizing varies across brands, so we suggest taking a look at each designer’s notes before you buy.)

13. Tuckernuck

  • Average pricing: $50 to $500
  • Shipping/return pricing: Free shipping on all orders, flat $5 return shipping fee
  • Size range: 0 to 12

Tuckernuck has a classic American vibe similar to Ralph Lauren or Tory Burch, but with a bit of a cheeky twist. Expect brighter colors and patterns from this Washington D.C.-based retailer...and just a touch of boho. Tuckernuck does have its own in-house line with the same name, which features easy silhouettes, lots of chambray, ditsy florals and stripes and timeless accessories. The shop also carries labels you already know and love, such as English Factory, Loeffler Randall, Tanya Taylor and Banjanan.

14. nordstrom

  • Average pricing: $100 to $300, with a selection of more expensive pieces
  • Shipping/return pricing: Free shipping/returns on all orders
  • Size range: 00 to 28, Tall, Petite, Maternity

OK, so Nordstrom actually has lots of brick-and-mortar stores across the country, but we couldn’t make this list without a nod to its fantastic e-comm site. The website carries more styles and sizes of Nordstrom’s in-house brands, like BP., 1901, Chelsea28, Halogen and Zella, as well as some big brands, like Tory Burch, Good American, Boden, Eloquii and Rebecca Taylor. Our favorite section to shop, Topshop & Trend, is mostly under-$300, so you can stay on top of what’s in vogue without breaking your budget. But of course, there are also designer brands, like Alexander McQueen, Isabel Marant Étoile and Lafayette 148 New York for those looking to make more of a sartorial investment.

15. Aritizia

  • Average pricing: $90 to $200
  • Shipping/return pricing: Flat $8 shipping, free shipping on orders over $150, free returns
  • Size range: 00 to 16

Aritizia is another on this list that has a solid number of brick-and-mortar locations, but the awesome variation of styles and (mostly) affordable pricing make it a no-brainer for online perusing. You might already know Aritzia for its amazing puffer coats (the company is based in Canada, after all), but the retailer is also a go-to for flirty summer dresses and staples so good, you’ll want to buy them in bulk. There are a multitude of in-house lines—like Wilfred which focuses on easy femme pieces in gorgeous colors, Tna, an athleisure and WFH dream, and Babaton which is chock full of basics tailored to perfection—as well as a selection of denim from outside brands like Agolde and Levi’s.

16. Planet Blue

  • Average pricing: $50 to $250, with a selection of more expensive pieces
  • Shipping/return pricing: Free shippingon order over $150, flat $6.99 shipping fee, free returns
  • Size range: XXS to L

Planet Blue is all about embracing chill, boho SoCal vibes. That translates to flirty dresses from Spell & the Gypsy, cut-off denim shorts by One Teaspoon, easy sweats by Sundry and, of course, lots of swimwear. There is also Blue Life, an in-house collection that features trendy separates, bikinis and mini dresses all for under $150. If you find yourself shopping Planet Blue often, you might consider signing up for its VIP program which awards credits every time you shop that can then be applied to future purchases.

It also has a digital publication, Porter, that provides monthly styling and shopping advice in addition to interviews with a variety of influential women (like Angelina Jolie, Halima Aden, Jerrika Hinton and Claire Waight Keller). Most are discounted between 30 to 50 percent, although you can score some major pieces for up to 70 percent off. It also has its own in-house brand, Iris & Ink, which features not-to-be-missed wardrobe staples, mostly under $200.

  • Average pricing: $300 to $500, with a selection of more expensive pieces
  • Shipping/return pricing: Free shipping and returns on all orders
  • Size range: XXS to XXL

Olivela is a unique high-end retailer because for every purchase made, twenty percent of the proceeds are given directly to one of a handful of children’s charities. And no, prices aren’t marked up to account for the difference. Each product page outlines exactly what your purchase will mean to those on the receiving end, for charities including Save the Children, the Malala Fund or the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement. FarFetch curates its fashion-forward lineup from all over the world, mostly by working with brick-and-mortar boutiques and stores to make it easy to find and buy designer pieces no matter where you live. For some items, this means FarFetch must charge different prices for different sizes, based on where in the world the size is coming from (variations on taxes, shipping and import/export fees also complicate matters). But it also means you can scoop up incredible deals, like picking up an almost entirely sold out Mother of Pearl frock for 70 percent off from a little boutique in Tokyo without ever leaving your couch.

However, there are a ton of very impressive vintage clothing shops to keep tabs on, like Persphone Vintage and Passport Vintage, as well as a number of original designers working to get their names out there, like Seoul, Korea-based Blueblueus. Yes, there’s a lot to comb through, but you can find some real gems if you’re willing to put in the work.
