And great news: The company's genetic test kit, is currently more than half off during Amazon Prime Day 2024 (which runs from today, July 16, through Wednesday, July 17). That's right: The AncestryDNA sale lets you get a kit for $39 (from $119), so you can unlock your identity from more than 2,300 regions while saving $80 in the process. Modern DNA tests have been around since the '80s, but AncestryDNA, a subsidiary of Ancestry.com, has proven itself to be one of the most reliable direct-to-consumer genealogy companies out there. Its revolutionary scientific technology uses saliva to survey chromosomes and then interacts with their online interface to uncover both sides of your family’s genetic history in six to eight weeks. As an added bonus, you’ll also get a list of DNA matches, meaning others who have taken the test who are likely to be related to you.

The process is simple: Order a kit and follow the instructions listed inside to take a saliva sample from inside your mouth, place it into a tube and pop it into the prepaid package, so it can be sent to the company's lab. Activate the kit online, and in about six to eight weeks, you'll receive your results via email.

You can also link your activated account to an Ancestry World Explorer membership (purchased separately, from $33), which spans billions of international records to trace your family's journey from their country of origin. With the added membership, you can access the details of your ancestors, including their names and when and where they lived, through Ancestry’s extensive collection of records.

For the dog lovers, Amazon is also offering a major sale on its Pet DNA Breed Identification kit (was $99, now $69). At 30 percent off, it's a real bargain to discover percentages of breeds in your dog's makeup, get an analysis of your dog's traits and talents based on that genetic makeup and yes, even discover any long-lost furry relatives, if they are also listed in the ancestry database.
