This Kate Winslet Action Flick Is the #2 Movie on Netflix and We’ve Literally Never Heard of It Before

Remember how we reported that Netflix viewers are currently obsessed with action films (we’re looking at you, Mile 22 and Peppermint)? Well, it looks like the trend continues because today’s number two movie on the streaming service's most popular movie list is (you guessed it) an action-thriller. And once we saw that Kate Winslet stars, our interest was immediately piqued.

Called Triple 9, the flick hit theaters back in 2016 and we’re honestly not sure how we’ve never heard of it. In fact, most of the reviews we’ve seen online (yes, of course, we did some digging) were actually fairly positive with 75 percent of Google users saying they enjoyed the film and Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 54 percent. Hey, we’ve seen worse. Not to mention, the cast list is so incredible that it’s almost hard to believe.

Keep reading for everything we know.

To summarize, Triple 9 follows a gang of criminals and corrupt cops as they plan the murder of a police officer in order to pull off their biggest heist yet. Winslet plays ruthless gangster Irina Vlaslov, who, after realizing she’s unhappy with her men’s first attempt at a bank heist, sends them to pull off a much tougher job. The official synopsis reads, “A group of dirty Atlanta cops blackmailed by the Russian mob plan a seemingly impossible heist that sets off an explosive chain reaction of violence.” And we’d say explosive is the perfect word to describe this movie.
