Mario Lopez Talks His New Lifetime Holiday Movie (& His Favorite Christmas Film of All Time)

Mario Lopez, better known as Lifetime’s Christmas king, is returning to the network once again for his latest film, Steppin’ Into the Holiday.

The TV personality recently sat down for an interview with PureWow to promote the “Unbox the Icons” campaign with Frito-Lay Variety Pack. During the conversation, Lopez also opened up about the upcoming movie, his penchant for starring in feel-good films and the one holiday movie he can watch over and over again.

While discussing Steppin’ Into the Holiday, which follows a former Broadway star’s budding romance with a dance studio owner, he said, “I’m really excited about it. It’s probably my favorite one I’ve done so far, to be honest. We shot it in Nashville, and my wife is in it with me. She does a great job. There are a lot of musical components, a lot of dancing, a lot of great songs, and it’s coming out the first week in December on Lifetime.”

As for key takeaways, Lopez explained that he hopes fans will “smile and feel good” while watching Steppin’ Into the Holiday. He continued, “With so much going on in the world, you can escape and watch something that’ll make you laugh, hopefully tug at your heartstrings with a little romance. It represents family at the end of the day, which is comforting. I think it’ll be a nice little escape.”

Fans of Lifetime may recall that Lopez has appeared in multiple films in the past, including Feliz NaviDAD and Holiday in Santa Fe, which stars his daughter, Gia Lopez. Lopez revealed that he enjoys making these movies because they align with his own values as a family man.

“I think just being a family guy now and having three young kids that love Christmas, I think it represents my brand a lot. I’m all about family and faith, and they represent our values,” he said. “It’s a nice complement to all my hosting duties, whether it’s Access Hollywood, Access Daily or my nationally syndicated radio show ON With Mario, so it’s fun stuff to do.”

Given his fondness of the genre, it comes as no surprise that Lopez also indulges in these films during the holiday season. And not surprisingly, his absolute favorite just so happens to be a star-studded classic.

“There are so many good ones out there,” he said. “But I like Love Actually a lot. I like all the different stories. They’re romantic, and they all intertwine, and [I like] the music. So, if I had to pick one, that’s probably one of my favorites.”

TBH, same—because seeing Mark hold up those large cue cards just never gets old.
