If you live for small town romances and picturesque scenery, then we've got just the show for you.
Meet Heartland, the Canadian series that's been generating a whole lot of buzz on social media. The family drama, which has been on the air for more than a decade, is currently ranked eighth in Netflix's list of top shows, and judging by its Hallmark-style storylines, we're willing to bet that Sweet Magnolias stans already account for a major part of its fanbase.
Based on the book series of the same name by Lauren Brooke, Heartland follows Amy Fleming, a young woman whose life turns upside down after the sudden death of her mother. Together with her sister, widowed father and grandfather, Amy navigates the ups and downs of life on the family's ranch in Alberta.
On social media, fans have been recommending the show to users who love escapist dramas, such as Hart of Dixie, Sweet Magnolias and, not surprisingly, Virgin River. One fan tweeted, "I love the feel of the show Virgin River. It's such a nice light hearted show. And the scenery between episodes. Friggen beautiful. Sometimes it kinda reminds me of Heartland." Another user even described Heartland as feeling "akin to a warm blanket," adding that the show can "cheer you up."
The show's cast includes Amber Marshall, Michelle Morgan, Shaun Johnston, Alisha Newton and Chris Potter. Murray Shostak developed the series while Heather Conkie, Tom Cox, Jordy Randall and Michael Weinberg served as executive producers.
Seasons one through thirteen are currently available to stream on Netflix (the last two seasons were just added this month), and in May of 2020, the Heartland was green-lit for a fourteenth season.
Looks like this show will be keeping us occupied for a while.
