You might have noticed that PureWow editors are big fans of Merit's simplistic makeup and skincare products that do their job without leaving you with an overdone look. (And we're not the only ones—celebs like Lily Collins and Sarah Jessica Parker are also known to wear the brand.) So when I heard that Merit was releasing a new lip liner *and* a fresh version of its already beloved lip oil, I knew I had to try them out. I also tapped PureWow Beauty and Cultures Editor Chelsea Candelario for her expert opinions on the products. You can see in the photos below how a few of the shades look on our different skin tones and, following those, find our full thoughts on each item.

Merit developed the Signature Lip Liner to be both hydrating and buildable to create a defined look that still aligns with the brand's classic, minimalist offerings—and I can confirm it does just that. It goes on *so* smoothly and lets me build up color (which I especially appreciate as someone who does a pretty simple makeup routine) and blends well with the lip oil. Plus, the liner winds up like a lipstick or creamy eyeliner would, so I don't have to worry about keeping a sharpener on hand.

Candelario also shares, "I'm slowly getting into the lip liner game and Merit's makes it so much easier. It glides smoothly along my lip and it's creamy enough that I don't mind even wearing it as a lipstick alternative. The brown liners—Brownstone and Capricorn—work well with the lip oils for an all-around defined pout."

You can see how aligned we are on the lip liner's formula, but just in case you need more convincing, just take a look at the slew of 5-star reviews the liner's already racked up since dropping.

New to Merit's lip oil lineup are "The Sheens," which are four new colors that have a slightly pearlescent finish and light pigmentation. Per the brand, The Sheens have an updated formula that lasts longer than The Classics and The Gelées, and offers more cushioning for your lips. They're also packed with beneficial ingredients like plant-derived squalene and quinoa seed oil, which are meant to moisturize and restore your lips while supporting their barrier function.

Of this new formula, Candelario says, "I've been a big fan of the Merit lip oils for a while. My go-to shade has always been Pink Beet, but Biarritz and Twin Set might be in the running for the top spot. The lip oil is just so moisturizing and offers just enough tint to complement my skin tone. I love that they're shiny without being overly glossy. Plus, it lasts all day without drying up or leaving that weird residue."

Meanwhile, this was my first experience with Merit's lip oil and, honestly, I'm impressed. I've tried a ton of lip oils over the past couple of years, but this is one of the few that I find to be moisturizing but not sticky, and I also really like that it has a subtle (but still noticeable) hue.

So if you can't tell, it's a definite "yes" from both me and Candelario when it comes to Merit's new lip liner and latest oil formulation. I suggest picking them up ASAP because once you have them in your hands (and on your lips) you'll want to use them on repeat.
