The new moon in Scorpio on the 1st is urgent. It feels like a forced factory reset. Time to cut losses and move on. Ruled by Mars in sensitive Cancer forming an exact opposition with power planet Pluto, this lunation is here to clear away the grime of emotional hang ups and toxic relationship dynamics. This process is going to leave us feeling raw

Volatility is the norm this week.  Some might speak out of turn when communication planet Mercury opposes Uranus on the 30th. Then on the 2nd, when Mercury trines Mars and sextiles Pluto, we might be all too eager to rush into the next thing.

Mercury enters Sagittarius on the 2nd where the communication planet has zero filter. Due to an upcoming retrograde, Mercury remains in Sagittarius until early 2025 which means that from now until the new year, conversations are going to get a lot more freewheeling and candid. If you want the truth, make sure you’re ready to hear it.

Your Monthly Horoscopes: October 2024

Cheeky illustrations of a girl of color in a purple shirt and overalls with a baby ram over her shoulders. She is smiling and so is the ram. The overall color is purple—purple background, pink ram with purple horns and the girls is wearing a purple shirt. Her hair is in a messy bun.

Aries (March 21 - April 19)

The new moon in Scorpio on the 1st is a moment for ripping off the Band-Aid, Aries. Long-repressed jealousy creeps to the surface. Topics you’ve been avoiding in therapy must be discussed. A hard “no” comes when you ask a usually reliable friend for a favor. What feels painful and raw in this moment is going to be powerful medicine in the long term. It just doesn’t feel like that right now.

This week’s mantra: “Break.”

Cheeky illustration of a young non-binary person petting a bull.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)

Conflicts that bubbled to the surface this summer can no longer be avoided. The new moon in Scorpio on the 1st is a powerful reset for your closest relationships. Let this week be an opportunity to have hard conversations and reset power dynamics. You’re probably going to feel disappointed. But the plot twist is: disappointment feels better than all the mental gymnastics you were doing to avoid feeling despair.

This week’s mantra: “Accept.”

Cheeky illustration of identical twins with long dark hair and a statement earrings back-to-back, smirking at each other.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)

The new moon in Scorpio on the 1st is all about reinvigorating your routines. If you’ve been in a slump at work, this week is a not-so-gentle nudge to get back to business (or perhaps start looking for new opportunities). It’s a powerful time for restoring abandoned fitness or nutrition goals, and for scheduling all those appointments you’ve been avoiding. Time for a literal or figurative oil change.

This week’s mantra: “Tackle.”

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)

This year has been about rebuilding your strength when it comes to dating or creative projects (or perhaps a little bit of both), and the new moon in Scorpio on the 1st helps you push past yet another block or fear. Whether you’re going on a first date, exploring non-monogamy or taking a painting class, the nervous anticipation you’re feeling leads to self revelation. Keep going.

This week’s mantra: “Experiment.”

Cheeky illustration of a woman of Asian-descent wearing a sheer coral top with her hair half-up in pigtail puns, the rest down. She is hugging a lion, who is smirking.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)

As much as you’re feeling pressure to put yourself out there, the new moon in Scorpio on the 1st makes it clear that the real work starts at home. Avoiding your foundational needs means that every few steps forward lead to burnout and taking a step back. The point isn’t to work yourself into the ground, but to find a more joyful ease between resting and doing.

This week’s mantra: “Ground.”

Cheeky illustration with a light blue background of a woman wearing a coral shirt coyly poking out from behind her hands.

Virgo (August 23 - September 23)

The new moon in Scorpio on the 1st brings some harsh realizations about who you can trust. If you’ve been loyal to a community or friend group or geographical place for loyalty’s sake, a reality check comes in the form of disappointment. Putting too many eggs in the same basket can lead to a lot of broken eggs. It might be time to rethink who gets to know your secrets.

This week’s mantra: “Quality.”

Libra (September 23 - October 21)

The new moon in Scorpio on the 1st brings a powerful reset for both your financial life and self-worth. If you’ve been struggling to stabilize your income or rebuild your confidence (probably both at the same time, let’s be real), it’s likely fear that’s been getting in the way. When scarcity feels familiar, it’s tricky to embrace abundance. But claiming your worth is a risk that feels so good after the initial jump.

This week’s mantra: “Leap.”

Scorpio (October 22 - November 21)

The new moon in Scorpio on the 1st is a powerful moment of regeneration and reclaiming your personal agency. You’re realizing now how much you’ve let others influence your environment, and how some of your big dreams were never even yours. Breaking free from these external expectations allows you to recenter. Journal it out, but don’t be afraid to share your goals with the group too. This week is dizzying now but stabilizing long-term.

This week’s mantra: “Channel.”

Cheeky illustration of a Black woman with purple hair on an orange background. She's in a wearing jean jacket, with a quiver strapped across her back and arrows sticking out.

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)

The new moon in Scorpio on the 1st brings a needed reset for your mental health. Things are only going to get busier as the holidays approach, which is why it’s critical that you take time this week to relax and restore. You may also be feeling a crunch when it comes to your personal finances and shared resources. If things are feeling overwhelming, remember to pause and breathe. The best you can do really is the best you can do.

This week’s mantra: “Shhhh!”

A cheeky image of a woman of color with dark hair holding a pink goat by the horns. The background is pink and her shirt is darker pink.

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)

This week’s new moon in Scorpio on the 1st is a powerful moment to assess how you want to show up in friendship and community. The people who you spend time with should be those who share and reflect your goals, not those who actively stand in the way of you achieving them. It might be time to walk away from draining ties and instead commit where you’re appreciated.

This week’s mantra: “Collective.”

Cheeky image of a Black woman with blue hair on a light blue background. She's holding blue water in her palms, which is bubbling up and taking shape as her hair.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)

The new moon in Scorpio on the 1st brings a powerful reset for your career, public image and leadership roles. If self-doubt has been getting in the way of you doing your best work, this week’s energy allows you to break past that fear. Whether via a cathartic therapy session or affirming meeting with your boss, you’re learning to trust your own authority.

This week’s mantra: “Rise.”

Cheeky illustration of a gender-fluid white person with short-cropped orange hair. They're wearing a light blue halter top as two bright pink koi fish circle their head.

Pisces (February 19 - March 20)

In what feels like a forever struggle to find your “purpose,” the new moon in Scorpio on the 1st brings a chance to wipe away all preconceived notions of what that even means. What if it’s OK to be a little bit lost? What if it’s better to have no plan and find yourself along the way? Opportunities to travel, study and pair up with a mentor arrive in unexpected ways this week. Go along for the ride.

This week’s mantra: “Fly.”
