When it comes to weddings trends, we’ve seen them all—the rise (and fall) of punny hashtags (#TurnDownforWatts, #HappilyEverAlvarez), pistachio wedding dresses, and when the pandemic struck, microweddings were all the rage. More recently, it seems like there's an uptick of millennials incorporating a little magic from the cosmos in their garb. That’s right, the generation that is utterly obsessed with all things astrology—zodiac signs, horoscopes, Mercury retrograde—is taking their love for the sky above a step further by waving goodbye to conventional wedding dresses and opting for a little bit of sparkle and shine. Introducing: cosmic wedding dresses.
Cosmic wedding dresses are basically wedding gowns that have a celestial feel. They’re highlighted by flowy, cloud-like tulle and embellished by moons, stars or other tiny trinkets to resemble the night sky. In fact, according to the Pinterest trend report, searches for the term “moon wedding dress” were up 180 percent in 2021, which tells us that millennial brides are on the hunt for dresses that offered a bit more heavenly magic.
But the 26-to-41 demographic is not limiting their love for all things celestial to just weddings. It seems like Gen Y is also looking to bring a little heaven on earth for every occasion. Pinterest reports that there has also been a super surge in searches for celestial-themed events such as “sunshine baby showers,” “sun-themed birthday parties,” “star-themed parties” and, naturally, “moon party decorations.”
Here’s to partying like the gods.
