As an avid traveler, I’ve stayed in my fair share of beautiful hotels before, from W Boston with its chic lobby bar to W New York Times Square just feet from all the action. But when it came to planning my honeymoon, I obviously wanted to make sure I picked the perfect destination. After a multi-day Mexican wedding, I knew my partner and I would need a relaxing resort to unwind (and unpack the events and the drama of the previous days). Fortunately, I selected the stunning W Punta de Mita—and our stay was one for the books.
I Spent My Honeymoon at the Gorgeous W Punta de Mita and It Was the Most Relaxing 4 Days of My Adult Life
Frozen cocktail and an ocean view? Yes, please

The Welcome
Ok, the resort is beautiful. From the moment we stepped out of our car, we were transported. We sat in a tranquil outdoor lounge area as we awaited a golf cart that whisked us away to the lobby. As we rode, the cart driver joked, “Welcome to Jurassic Park.” I laughed, not because I was concerned about dinosaurs, but because the grandeur of it all, and the lush nature was more than reminiscent of Laura Dern’s first arrival to the infamous park.

The lobby is a work of art to say the least. The tile work there (and throughout the resort) is definitely Instagram-worthy—I found myself snapping shots from the get-go. And the artwork continues as you step outside and see a mind-blowing tiled staircase that leads to a breathtaking view of the ocean.

The Food
W Punta de Mita offers several restaurants on property—and everything we ate was top notch. The first night, we took in the sunset at Venazu Restaurant, enjoying delicious Mexican dishes and local wines. The next night we opted for Spice Market for a little Thai and Vietnamese flavor (it sounds basic, but the Pad Thai was *chef’s kiss*).
And we made sure to take in snacks oceanside at Chevycheria, an adorable thatched-roof venue that oozes beach vibes.

The Relaxation
Following all the family time, over-the-top events and catching up with friends during the wedding itself, I was looking forward to a few days of R and R. W Punta de Mita provided just that.
The resort location, directly on the water, meant falling asleep to the sound of crashing waves (I was lulled to sleep like a baby). It also meant gorgeous views of the ocean while I sipped a frozen cocktail in a beachfront cabana with my new husband.
And while W Punta de Mita is extremely family friendly, for those who are looking for a little less…how do I say this…“activity,” there is a beautiful adults-only pool where the music is soothing and the vibes are very, very chill. I spent nearly every morning and afternoon there, taking advantage of the waiter service to order rum-filled cocktails and a little light lunch (by light lunch, I mean I opted for the chicken fingers and French fries—my wedding diet was officially over).

It was almost impossible not to relax. Even my partner, who thrives on having something to do, found himself napping and sipping the day away (a well-deserved respite after the intense wedding planning).

The Room
And it wouldn’t be a discussion of relaxation without describing our enormous hotel room. We stayed in the ‘Fabulous’ tier of room, which was a king bed, oceanfront suite featuring (wait for it…) beach access, a private plunge pool (which was warm enough that even my partner went in) and our very own whirlpool bathtub that sat in an open-air atrium within the bathroom.

I’m quite familiar with the comfort afforded to those who stay on a W property, but this room was jaw-dropping even by W standards. The bed was huge and comfy (I already mentioned the great sleep I got), the shower was enormous (and sexy if you’re into that sort of thing), the private outdoor patio and plunge pool were ideal for sneaking in a nap and the automated blackout curtains made it easy to unwind when we were ready to call it a night.

The Conclusion
I really couldn’t have asked for a better honeymoon. I left refreshed and relaxed. For those thinking of staying at W Punta de Mita, I recommend the all-inclusive option so you don’t have to even think about food and drink—it’s all just at your fingertips. And if when I go back, I’ll be bringing my dog with me—the resort is extremely dog-friendly with plenty of space for them to roam and explore.

Honeymoon? 10/10. No notes.
