6 Awesome Places to Go Glamping in Texas

Raise your hand if you could use a vacation right about now? Yeah, same here. This summer, we’re ditching the fancy hotels and hanging out in nature. And by that, we mean doing so while maintaining access to running water and great coffee. Fortunately, there are plenty of gorgeous spots to go glamping in Texas, while maintaining a safe social distance from others. Here are our favorite places to be one with nature-ish.

Note: With the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, the State of Texas encourages everyone to heed the advice of the CDC and U.S. State Department's travel notices, advisories and recommendations. Find out more here.

1. Geronimo Creek Retreat (seguin)

You’ll feel like you’re completely off the grid at this hidden oasis, even though you’re just outside of Seguin. Fish and swim in the creek, chill out by the fire pit and be one with the outdoors. But don’t worry: Your fully furnished teepee with a kitchenette, bathroom and gorgeous view is waiting for you when you need a break from the elements. “Because each rental unit at Geronimo Creek Retreat is well separated from each other, Geronimo Creek Retreat is as safe as can be destination to enjoy with your family while practicing social distancing,” say owners. They’re also taking extra precautions like sanitizing rental units and commonly touched surfaces inbetween stays. Read up on the precautions the property is taking for COVID-19 here.

2. El Cosmico (marfa)

This Marfa hot spot fancies itself an outdoor retreat experience as opposed to a luxury lodging facility, but how could we not include the place that turned Texas on to the whole unplugging thing in the first place? Unwind in one of the properties yurts, tepees or safari tents, or bring our own camping accommodations (but we’re partial to the swanky yurts). The facility is currently offering social distancing-friendly add-ons, like local restaurant meals drop-offs and the ability to pre-order groceries and take special excursions (think: a scenic drive, a visit to Prada Marfa or a hike in Big Bend State Park). Read more about their health and safety measures here.

3. Collective Hill Country (wimberley)

We highly recommend getting away for a couple of days without even thinking about work, but if you can’t get the time off, then this luxury retreat’s “work from tent Wi-Fi and wine” package is ideal. Included in the package are luxe tent accommodations (with air conditioning), a work table on your deck or inside your tent, enhanced Wi-Fi that supports video conference calls and HD streaming and a complimentary bottle of wine upon arrival. So long, working from your dusty old couch. Now taking bookings for September with enhanced health and safety measures in place.

4. Cypress Valley Canopy Tours (spicewood)

Why stay in a tent when you could stay in a treehouse? Cypress Valley Canopy Tours outside of Austin boasts five magical treehouses nestled up high among the ancient cypress trees. With air conditioning, indoor and outdoor baths, kitchens and wrap-around patios on offer, this is not your run-of-the-mill camping excursion. Did we mention that one of the treehouses boasts an indoor waterfall? Precautions for COVID-19 include using Ozonetech in the air between every stay, disinfecting all surfaces and requiring a two-night minimum stay to limit turnover.

5. Green Acres (elgin)

If you’ve been spending too much time on Zoom lately and in need of a digital detox, look no further than Green Acres in Elgin. This upscale property has four chic yurts, complete with organic bedding, air-conditioning, queen beds, eco-friendly toiletries and writing desks—but no Wi-Fi. There’s also a 1965 airstream on site, supplied with a record player and cocktail bar, just waiting to be used.

Escape city living at this Texas Hill Country retreat that’s located on 15 beautiful acres of land. Soak up the breathtaking views, then retreat to your own sanctuary—the Ndotto tent boasts an outdoor hot tub, kitchen, shower and fireplace. Oh, and there’s also your own private deck so you can have a drink at sunset followed by dinner under the stars. Not too shabby.
