Netflix Drops Trailer for ‘Young Royals’ & It’s Like a Mix of ‘The Crown’ Meets ‘Gossip Girl’

When it comes to Netflix, there are a few categories where we’re always looking for new content. However, it’s only on the rarest occasions that we come across something that hits all of our marks—drama, royals and coming-of-age.

Well, it seems like the streaming platform listened to our prayers because it just dropped a trailer for a new series that encompasses all of that. Called Young Royals, the Swedish show follows a troubled teenage prince, who's sent to boarding school after getting into a fight and dragging his family name into disrepute.

The official trailer was dropped on Wednesday, and although it’s only two minutes of footage, Young Royals seems like a mix between The Crown, Gossip Girl and Skins. Watch the clip below.

Netflix’s official synopsis reads, “When Prince Wilhelm (Edvin Ryding) arrives at the prestigious boarding school Hillerska he finally gets an opportunity to explore his true self and find out what kind of life he really wants. Wilhelm starts dreaming of a future filled with freedom and unconditional love far away from the royal obligations—but when he unexpectedly becomes next in line for the throne his dilemma is heightened as he has to make a choice. Love or duty.”

As you’ll notice from the trailer, the entire series is actually in Swedish, so you’ll have to use subtitles (unless you're bilingual). Luckily, we don’t have to wait long for Young Royals to drop on Netflix. The series’s official release date is July 1.

This leaves us plenty of time to brush up on our Svenska.
