Viola Davis’s Netflix Interview with Oprah Is a Must-Watch—Here’s Why

Viola Davis is re-teaming up with Oprah Winfrey for a must-see interview about her life.

Today, the pair released a 48-minute video, titled Oprah + Viola: A Netflix Special Event, which they filmed on the porch of Winfrey’s Maui home. During their candid conversation, Davis discussed everything from her career to her childhood to her family.

The trailer offers a glimpse of what viewers can expect from Oprah + Viola: A Netflix Special Event. In the clip, Davis explains how her adopted daughter, Genesis, has impacted her life.

“You know, to live for something bigger than yourself. I mean, that’s what it was,” she says. “The first time she looked at me and squeezed me and made me believe that I could be her mom. And I could mother her. And that, sort of, just really pure love that only children can give you.”

Davis continues, “All the tools you need to raise a little girl—the affirmations, all those things—while you’re doing that, you’re healing yourself.”

Davis also reveals what it was really like growing up in Harlem. The First Lady actress recalls a time when her doll’s face was eaten by rats (yup) in the middle of the night.

“I had a doll that was made of hard plastic—so, like porcelain. I had one doll like that. And to hear the eating of that doll,” she says with a laugh. “And then when I woke up, the entire face was gone.”

Oprah + Viola: A Netflix Special Event is now streaming on Netflix. (You’ll thank us later.)
