Netflix Offers First Teaser for ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 and the Creator Hints at Who Will Return in New Episodes

Get ready for more deadly games, Squid Game fans.

Following last year's release of the highly-intense first season, which helped make Squid Game the most-watched new show in the history of Netflix, the survival drama has been confirmed to be returning for season 2. And now, we've finally got our first teaser of what's to come.

For those who already watched the first season, it appears that season 2 might feature some of the same games based on this teaser. In the clip, we see a close-up of an animatronic doll and the number “2” appears in its eye. This doll looks extremely similar to the one that leads the Red Light, Green Light game in the first episode of the series.

The video was shared to the official Squid Game Instagram account, where they wrote, “On your marks. Get set. Greenlight. Squid Game continues, only on Netflix. #SquidGameS2.”

But that wasn't the only teaser the streaming service offered.

In addition to the short clip, the producers of the series also shared a letter from the show's creator, writer and director, Hwang Dong-hyuk.

The letter gave a sense of what's to come in season 2, as well as some intel on which characters will be returning for the new episodes. Hwang started out by saying, “It took 12 years to bring the first season of 'Squid Game' to life last year. But it took 12 days for 'Squid Game' to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As the writer, director, and producer of 'Squid Game,' a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.”

He then revealed a few characters who will appear in season 2, saying, “And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You'll also be introduced to Young-hee's boyfriend, Cheol-su.” (For those who might not know, Young-hee is the animatronic doll that appears in the first season, and her “boyfriend” might be the robot that appears in the new teaser.)

Hwang closed the statement by writing, “Join us once more for a whole new round.”

We couldn't be more excited. Now we'll just be anxiously awaiting an official release date.
