Rob Lowe Went on a Double Date with Tom Cruise in the '80s & He Just Shared Picture Proof

Rob Lowe just took us on a major trip down memory lane.

The Parks and Recreation actor must have been going through some old photos because he recently stumbled upon this iconic picture featuring another big-time actor: Tom Cruise. It turns out the pair were good friends back in the '80s—so much so that they even went out on dates together. Lowe shared the vintage snap and said, “Double date 1980s style! I think this might’ve been the premiere of ‘The World According to Garp.’ #TBT.”

In the photo, the two young actors are rocking some serious sideswept bangs. Lowe's date is actress Melissa Gilbert, who is seen standing to his left, while Cruise is flanked by Michelle Meyrink, who starred alongside the two men in The Outsiders.

Besides Cruise's blue suit, the rest of the gang is donning classic ‘80s-style clothing, with Lowe captured in a blinding-white suit and Meyrink in a lacy white dress to match. Meanwhile, Gilbert is seen wearing a purple patterned turtleneck under a white button-up.

We are living for this blast from the past, especially since Cruise was one of Lowe's first friends when he came to Hollywood. In 2011, Lowe told Vanity Fair that he remembered meeting Cruise during the first round of auditions for The Outsiders. Lowe recalled, “[Cruise] is open, friendly, funny, and has an almost robotic, bloodless focus and an intensity that I’ve never encountered before.”

There's nothing we love more than a good celebrity throwback.
