Let’s hear it for the royal cousins: Any occasion that brings them all together (#TBT to that rainy Buckingham Palace garden party, hosted by Prince William) is a stand-out for us on the royal calendar. This takes us to Royal Ascot, which is in full swing just outside of Windsor this week in the U.K. So far, we’ve seen everyone from Princess Beatrice to Zara Tindall popping up. Still, it’s this interaction between Prince William and Princess Eugenie that made us laugh out loud.

First, it’s worth pointing out the strict dress code enforced at Royal Ascot, especially in the royal enclosure. Dress straps must be one inch or greater, halter necks are not permitted and—most relevant to this story—hats with at least a four-inch diameter base are required.

This brings us to Princess Eugenie and her choice of headwear (called the ‘Conchita’) from Emily London. The style was a stand-out for a number of reasons (we love the baby pink hue and the way it easily brightened up Eugenie’s Gabriela Hearst dress), but it garnered attention for a more playful reason: The oversized tassel, which oops, happened to continually fall in front of Eugenie’s face.
Enter Prince William—Eugenie’s cousin—who couldn’t help but flick it out from in front of Eugenie’s face. In fact, it appears Eugenie’s sister Beatrice also got in on the fun. Credit to royal photographer Chris Jackson for capturing the moment. Come on, who could resist?

In fact, the tassel on Eugenie’s hat turned out to be more of a showstopper than we’re guessing the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson planned. Just take a peek at the images of her viewing the horse races from the royal box.
What else is in store at Royal Ascot this week? We’ll be glued to the daily events, for sure. But mainly the stylish dress code and, just like Eugenie, how the royal family continues to make it their own.
