What King Charles Thinks of Kate Middleton’s Hair, According to Prince Harry

In a newly resurfaced excerpt from his memoir Spare, Prince Harry shared never-before-heard details about his relationship with his dad, King Charles. The Duke of Sussex, 40, revealed that the monarch is quite fond of Kate Middleton’s hair because she usually wears it down.

“Pa likes it when women wear their hair down,” he wrote. Prince Harry admitted that King Charles isn’t the only member of the royal family to express a preference for all-down hairstyles. “Granny too,” the duke continued, referring to the late Queen Elizabeth. “She often commented on ‘Kate’s beautiful mane.’”

Prince Harry went on to reveal that his wife, Meghan Markle, was instructed to wear her hair down when they first started dating. The Duke of Sussex recalled that his brother, Prince William, wasn’t very fond of Markle at first. 

“He’d always been pretty discouraging about my even dating Meg,” he wrote. “One day, sitting together in his garden, he’d predicted a host of difficulties I could expect if I hooked up with an ‘American actress,’ a phrase he always managed to make sound like ‘convicted felon.’”

However, William didn’t express any concern when Harry discussed the idea of proposing. “I asked him to harvest the diamonds from one particularly beautiful bracelet of Mummy’s and use those to create a ring,” Prince Harry explained. “I’d cleared all this in advance with Willy. I’d asked my brother if I could have the bracelet, and told him what it was for. I don’t recall him hesitating, for one second, in giving it to me.”
