Neil Patrick Harris and his husband David Burtka celebrated seven years of marriage. So, naturally, when we had the chance to sit down with the How I Met Your Mother star, we asked him for his tips for a successful relationship.
Harris recently spoke with us to discuss his latest partnership with Moose Toys to unveil its new toy, the Magic Mixies Magic Cauldron. During the interview, the Matrix 4 actor opened up about an almost two-decades-long relationship with his hubby and how they celebrated their recent wedding anniversary.
“Well, we’ve been together for much longer than seven years, because we weren’t allowed to get married for a long time. So, I think we’re on like 17 years of being together. So we really celebrate that day as our first date,” Harris said. “But for the anniversary of our wedding, I think we went and had dinner? I don’t know we’ve been pretty busy—nothing that exciting.”
As for his tips on maintaining a healthy marriage, Harris revealed that it’s all about respect. He continued, “I think you have to have mutual respect for the person that you’re with. David is an unbelievable man, he works super hard in a myriad of ways. He’s a multi-hyphenate—which is often a term used for performers—and he is a performer, but his hyphens run the gamut from parenting and providing and logical thinking and loving. He’s a great guy and so it's easy to keep our relationship alive because he’s so dope.”
