King Charles Gives Daughter-in-Law Kate Middleton a New Royal Title

First, Kate Middleton was given the official title of Princess of Wales after the passing of the late monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. And now, it appears that the princess will carry another royal title as well.

According to People, Princess Catherine has received the honorary title of Colonel of the Irish Guards from her father-in-law, King Charles. And what some royal fans may not know is that the title previously belonged to her husband, Prince William.

The late queen named her grandson the Colonel of the Irish Guards back in 2011, which happened to be two months before William and Catherine tied the knot. On the day of their wedding, many royal admirers can remember the prince wearing a red Irish Guards officer uniform with a blue sash wrapped around his torso.

And Princess Catherine is not the only royal receiving a new honorary royal title. People also reminded us that Prince William recently obtained a new title of his own.

Shortly after the queen passed away on September 8, King Charles addressed the commonwealth with a written speech and announced that his son would be given the title of Colonel of the Welsh Guards—as well as his new title of Prince of Wales.

During the speech, the newly appointed King of England also had a chance to highlight his late mother’s legacy and vowed to follow in her footsteps. “My beloved mother was an inspiration, an example to me and to all my family,” he said. “And we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family could owe to a mother for her love affection, guidance, understanding and example.”

Congrats on your new role, Princess Catherine!
