Heidi Klum and Husband Tom Kaulitz's Recent Body Language Speaks Volumes About Their Relationship

I asked an expert to weigh in on one of Hollywood's hottest couples

When it comes to celeb couples, there's more than enough attention being heaped upon Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce or Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. But one of my favorite under-the-radar Hollywood pairs that doesn't always get their due? The queen of Halloween herself, Heidi Klum, and her husband, Tom Kaulitz. The couple frequently makes red carpet appearances together (and will soon be popping up at Klum's iconic Halloween party).

So, I exclusively chatted with body language expert Darren Stanton about Klum and Kaulitz—and he had plenty to share about what their physicality says about their relationship.

Stanton told me (on behalf of Spin Genie), "What I like about these two is that they've got a strong relationship, but at the same time, although they’re OK to display public displays of affection, it’s not over the top. It tells me that they’re very settled and content in their own skin and very authentic in the way they are with each other, and with the media. Very often with celebrities you never see the authentic person. However, with these two, they are matching and mirroring each other. When people match and mirror each other’s behaviors or signature gestures, it means they’re doing it unconsciously."

Stanton continued, "They are in synchronization and in tune with each other."

He referenced a photo of the couple from this September when they appeared together at Paris Fashion Week (shown above) as "a great example of this."

He said, "We’ve got two, not over-the-top smiles, but two genuine smiles. Also, when we zoom in, we see crows feet or laugh lines, which is a muscle that cannot be engaged if a smile was faked. They are clearly in a good place without having to try that hard."

The body language expert also took a look at their joint red carpet outing at the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscar Party from back in March.

Stanton told me, "Heidi is smiling for the paps and he’s got his hand behind her back. It’s clear that Tom doesn’t take himself too seriously, whereas some celebrities are keen to impress when they’re in front of the cameras. The fact that he’s laughing, and she's pulling a smirk tells me that they’re comfortable, authentic and don’t have to try too hard. They’re just themselves, take them or leave them."

And even if their PDA isn't over the top like with some other celebs (*cough* Simone Biles *cough*), that doesn't mean they don't have their moments, like at this year's Golden Globe Awards.

Of their PDA moment on the red carpet, Stanton said, "What’s interesting is that Heidi is standing backwards, which is what we call a submissive gesture, almost like she’s letting Tom take the lead. He’s taller and leaning inwards, it’s like he’s on tiptoes. Although they’re equal in the relationship, she’s happy for him to take the lead. Overall, they appear very much in love and come across as completely authentic in themselves."

As I said, Klum and Kaulitz are one of my favorite celeb couples. And if their body language didn't betray just how in love they are, their joint devotion to Halloween certainly should.

The most recent example? Halloween 2023, when Klum went as a human-sized peacock while Kaulitz hit the red carpet dressed as...an egg. If that's not love, I don't know what is.
