Supermodel Gisele Bündchen Reveals Why She Considered Turning Down ‘The Devil Wears Prada’

Who could forget Gisele Bündchen’s cameo in the 2006 classic, The Devil Wears Prada? We sure haven’t. Even though she only had a few lines, she made her presence known among the big names in the film, such as Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt. However, there was one scenario where the supermodel would've turned down a part in the film altogether.

In a new episode of British Vogue’s Life of Looks series, Bündchen revealed that she was “not interested” in appearing in the movie if she had to play a model, shortly after being approached by screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna.

FYI, the supermodel played a Runway Magazine employee named Serena, who also happened to be friends with Blunt’s character. You may recall that scene where Serena and Emily are discussing Andrea’s (Hathaway) poor performance as Miranda Priestly’s assistant. Then enters Andrea, wearing a completely new wardrobe. The scene ends with their mouths agape.

Bündchen said that playing a model didn't interest her—she wanted to play a Runway employee. "I’m not gonna play a model, I do that every day; that’s already a role I play,” she said. As for what her experience was like? “I am not an actress, I’ve never had an acting class," she recalled. “It was Meryl Streep, [whom] I think is the best actress of all time. It was Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway, all of them, incredible.” Intimidating indeed.
