Guys, this is not a drill—Drew Barrymore is definitely down for a Never Been Kissed reboot.
PureWow recently sat down with the 46-year-old actress and, as she discussed her most iconic roles from the ‘90s, Barrymore confirmed that she’s open to reprising her old characters for movie sequels—especially Josie Geller.
She told us, “I have no idea what the future holds, and I love those characters and movies so much. They bring me nothing but joy, so, hell yeah, why not?”
The actress and television host continued, “It's hard to do it while [The Drew Barrymore Show] is happening because it's so consuming. It's insane, but, never say never. Except for about marriage... I'll never get married again. But, Josie Grossie? Any day.”
In case you need a refresher, in the 1999 hit Never Been Kissed, Barrymore plays a young journalist who goes undercover as a high school student to land her next big story. And luckily for fans, the actress actually reprised the role for a special segment on her talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show.
Naturally, we couldn’t get enough of Josie’s comedic humor and charm, but as entertaining as it was to see the budding journalist in her element, we couldn’t help but notice Barrymore’s impressive delivery of the news. As it turns out, Barrymore and Josie have way more in common than we thought: During our chat, the TV host, who’s now partnering with instead (a natural lawn care program that provides environmentally friendly products), revealed that journalism is one of her biggest interests.
She told us, “I love journalism. I love the homework and the research process. That for me is so fun. I have to tame myself because I usually go into an interview knowing so much about someone. I just want to show up for people and show that I've watched their work and I care and I've learned about them and their lives."
Given Barrymore’s contagious energy and stellar interviewing techniques on her talk show, it comes as no surprise that she’s so passionate about the field. She continued, “I was so inspired by watching big TV interviews growing up, I sort of miss that in this ADD, fast-paced snackable world. I really want to have some meaningful conversations."
It might be a while before we see a Never Been Kissed sequel, but in the meantime, we’re totally down for more Drew and Josie news segments—just sayin’.
