Princess Diana's Brother Charles Spencer Just Hit #1 on Amazon with His Latest Book

While the name Charles Spencer has become notable for his relation to the late Princess Diana (his sister), he's also known for his successful career as an author.

The 9th Earl Spencer has written a variety of titles, ranging from a genealogy of his family (The Spencers: a Personal History of an English Family) to historical fiction that explores lesser-known pieces of British history (Killers of the King: The Men Who Dared to Execute Charles I).

Two of his works—Blenheim, Battle for Europe and Killers of the King—were both Sunday Times bestsellers, while the former was nominated for History Book of the Year at the National Book Awards.

Now, his latest title, The White Ship: Conquest, Anarchy and the Wrecking of Henry I’s Dream, has achieved a new milestone. In an Instagram post, the royal revealed that his historical novel had hit the #1 spot for bestsellers in the U.K. on Amazon.

Spencer shared a screenshot of the achievement on his Instagram, saying, “Forgive me while I pinch myself….”

Since the earl's post, the book has remained in the top ten of the list, where it is currently sitting at #7. Spencer's book is in good company, as it is surrounded by longtime bestsellers, like The Midnight Library by Matt Haig and Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.

Fellow authors and fans alike sent their congratulations to the earl, like British novelist Justine Picardie, who said: “Congratulations! Very well deserved for a brilliant book.” One user commented that it was a “Bloody good book!!”

While we're waiting for the next season of The Crown, we might just get our history fix from the earl's bestselling book.
