She may have been recently recognized as the future Queen Consort of England, but it took a different occasion to compel Camilla Parker Bowles to accept the invitation for her first-ever British Vogue interview: Her upcoming milestone birthday. On July 17, Camilla turns 75 years old and granted an interview to the fashion magazine to celebrate.
On this week’s episode of the Royally Obsessed podcast (listen to the episode here!), my co-host Roberta Fiorito and I discuss one of our favorite reveals from the interview: Camilla’s cute relationship ritual with Prince Charles.
In the conversation she has with writer Giles Hattersley, who penned the piece, Camilla discusses the difficulties of their busy royal schedules when it comes to their courtship, which has been going strong for over 17 years post-wedding. (Of course, we all know the history of Camilla and Charles before that.)
She says, “It’s not easy sometimes, but we do always try to have a point in the day when we meet. Sometimes it’s like ships passing in the night, but we always sit down together and have a cup of tea and discuss the day. We have a moment.”
Royals—they’re just like us! I’m one of the first to acknowledge the challenges of connecting daily with your spouse. Camilla and Charles prefer tea, while my spouse and I have been all in on the half-glass of wine as a way to connect in between the busy logistics of life. Did I ever envision comparing my relationship to that of Camilla and Charles? I did not.
But here we are—and I have to admit, I welcome the relatability of this admission by the Duchess of Cornwall. Also, I adore her funny asides in the interview about her press-on nails and love of Wordle. But you have to tune into the podcast to hear our thoughts on that.
