But back in 2019, the Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, Casey Bloys, admitted to TVLine that the high-profile cast made it difficult to get everyone together for a third season. “I love this group of people—I would do anything with them,” Bloys said. “But the reality is, they are some of the busiest actresses working in Hollywood...Look, if they all came to me and said, ‘We worked out all of our schedules!’ Then sure. But I just don’t think it’s realistic. Season two was a chance for everyone involved to end [the franchise] in a way that feels satisfying.”
Still, Kidman got our hopes up that same year, when she sat down with the Los Angeles Times and revealed that Liane Moriarty (who wrote the book from which the show was adapted), was working on a follow-up to Big Little Lies. “She’s always wanted to take these women further,” Kidman teased. “And she wrote a novella for season two, but she didn’t write a book, so she still has that book in her head about what she wants to do with them.” Earlier in 2019, Kidman also told Elle magazine: “Everyone says, ‘Are you going to do a season three?’ We’re like, ‘Just give us a sec.’”
