12 Wendy’s Secret Menu Items Worth Trying, from the T. Rex Burger to Cinnabacon Bites
Shh, don’t tell
Like other fast food restos, Wendy’s is always bringing something new and tasty to the table. (For instance, have you tried the limited-time Thin Mints Frosty yet?) Personally, I’m inclined to order the same meal every time—a spicy chicken sandwich combo with a double stack on the side, TYVM—but there are plenty of unofficial sandwiches and sides to order that just might make you (and me) branch out. Here, you’ll find 12 Wendy’s secret menu items worth trying, from mile-high handhelds to loaded fries.
Oh, and P.S.—in case you’re new to secret menus, they’re basically fan-created customizations. So if you’d like to try one, you’re better off asking for the traditional menu item and requesting changes to make the secret menu dish, rather than trying to order it by name (because no one at the restaurant may have any idea what you’re talking about).
Breakfast
1. Seasoned Potato Breakfast Sandwiches
- What to Order: a breakfast sandwich of your choice and a side of seasoned potatoes
This may not officially be on the unofficial Wendy’s secret menu (stay with me…), but I personally recommend placing some of the A.M. spuds on your morning handheld instead of eating them on the side like fries. They’ll pair with everything from the maple bacon chicken croissant to the sausage, egg and cheese biscuit, offering garlicky, oniony flavor and fluffy, tender textural contrast.
2. Cinnabacon Bites
- What to Order: a Cinnabon Pull-Apart with a side of bacon
If you like your savory with a side of sweet, this breakfast item is a must. The soft, doughy, cinnamon roll-like treat is brought to life with a salty, smoky punch of flavor from the bacon. Crumble it over the top and dig in for a balance of contrasting textures and tastes that’s sure to hit the spot.
3. Frosty French Toast Sticks
- What to Order: homestyle French toast sticks and a Frosty of your choice
You’re no stranger to fries dipped in creamy, dreamy soft serve. But have you tried this breakfast delicacy in their place? When you’re in the mood for an early sweet treat, this pairing won’t disappoint. The wider surface area of the French toast sticks also allows you to scoop more Frosty per dunk than with thin fries—and that’s objectively a good thing.
Lunch and Dinner
4. Barnyard Burger
- What to Order: a crispy chicken BLT or Asiago ranch chicken club sandwich with a beef patty
Can’t decide between proteins? Have them all with this super-sammy that combines beef, chicken and bacon on one bun. I’d imagine the range of textures is just as enticing as the myriad of flavors: juicy, tender beef, complemented by crispy, hot chicken and savory, slightly chewy, smoky pork. Be sure to bring your appetite for this one.
5. T. Rex Burger
- What to Order: a T. Rex burger (or two to four Dave’s Triple burgers to assemble yourself)
For when you’re feeling really peckish—like, six-to-12-patties peckish. Each one is draped in a slice of cheese (because duh), and the entire behemoth is crowned with lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles, ketchup and mayo for good measure. With this longtime Wendy’s secret menu item recently being back in the spotlight, thanks to TikTok, some locations know what you mean when you ask for this sandwich by its name. If not, just order multiple triple burgers and pile them together yourself.
6. Chili Cheeseburger
- What to Order: a cheeseburger of your choice and a cup of chili
The chili may not be the most popular side at Wendy’s, but I’d argue it’s the most iconic. Beans and ground beef in a savory tomato sauce will add zest (along with protein and fiber) to any burger. You can spoon it onto a cheeseburger of your choice or eat the chili and dip the sandwich into the broth instead.
7. Valley Crispy Chicken Club
- What to Order: a crispy chicken BLT with no cheese
Remember this discontinued menu item? It turns out that while it was nixed from the official lineup a few years back, you can still order it with the right modifications. Simply ask for a crispy chicken BLT (which comes with bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo) and hold the cheese. You can also request a spicy chicken patty instead of a regular one, if that’s more your speed.
8. Nugget Nachos
- What to Order: regular or spicy nuggets with assorted sides
Wendy’s offers regular chicken nuggets, spicy chicken nuggets and seven varieties of sauced nuggets (which are like cheaper boneless wings). Before you dunk them in ketchup and call it a day, consider zhuzhing them up with sides of your choice, like chili, cheese sauce, sour cream, chives or ranch dressing, for starters. Start with spicy ghost pepper Saucy Nuggs if you want it hot.
9. Asiago Beef Sandwich
- What to Order: Asiago ranch chicken club with beef instead of chicken
The Asiago ranch chicken club boasts breaded chicken, thick applewood smoked bacon, Asiagn cheese, ranch sauce, lettuce and tomato. Personally, I think chicken is the best option for this sandwich, but beef in its place would still taste good. Think of it as a fancy-ish, saucy bacon cheeseburger.

10. Bacon Queso Fries
- What to Order: Baconator Fries with spicy queso (or ghost pepper ranch) when available
Baconator Fries—fries doused in creamy cheese sauce, shredded cheddar and bacon—are officially on the menu. Occasionally, the chain also offers spicy poblano queso, which can be subbed for standard cheese sauce. If you want to boost the heat when the queso is unavailable, I suggest asking for ghost pepper American cheese instead of cheddar and a drizzle of ghost pepper ranch.
11. Frosty Coffee
- What to Order: a coffee of your choice and a Frosty on the side
Wendy’s already offers sweetened, Frosty-inspired cold brews (chocolate, vanilla and caramel), but nothing compares to the real thing. Order a hot coffee or cold brew—I’d go with the latter to keep the Frosty from immediately melting—and order vanilla or chocolate soft serve on the side. Then, combine them in any way you’d like and treat yourself to a caffeinated dessert.
12. Frosty Float
- What to Order: a drink of your choice and a Frosty on the side
Soda floats are nothing new. In fact, Wendy’s used to offer it on the official menu. Now, you’ll have to order two separate items to get one, but it’s worth it. Cola and orange soda are classic bases, but I’d be interested to taste one of the chain’s fancy lemonades with a scoop or two of vanilla Frosty.
