Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Has a Viral Coconut Banana Pancake Recipe—but Is It Worth the Hype?

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is known for his blockbuster acting career, his time as a WWE wrestler and his charmingly emotive eyebrows. After trying his recipe for coconut banana pancakes, which went viral on Instagram back in 2021, we can officially add cooking skills to the list. To see if the breakfast dish is worth the hype, we tested the recipe for our latest episode of Celeb Bites, a YouTube series where we cook and bake like the stars.

The recipe was created by Chef Janette Puttie Clark, who appears in the video with Johnson. “If you can, spend a buck or two more to get great quality ingredients—quality always make a difference. Including the maple syrup and peanut butter!” he wrote in the caption.

The recipe calls for coconut water, coconut milk, coconut oil and shredded coconut, as well as bananas. The rest of the ingredients are standard pantry staples used in pancakes, like flour, sugar and eggs. In other words, you likely have most of the ingredients you need already in your kitchen. Puttie Clark and The Rock suggest finishing them with pure maple syrup or a smear of peanut butter. (We’re betting a handful of chocolate chips in the batter couldn’t hurt either.)

Plenty of comments sing the recipe’s praises, but we had to try it ourselves to find out how tasty the pancakes really are. Watch the episode above for our thoughts and the full recipe.
